FEMA FINANCIAL HELP
Homeowners and renters in Charlotte County who had uninsured losses from Hurricane Helene may be eligible for federal disaster assistance. FEMA may provide financial help with temporary housing expenses, basic home repairs, vehicle replacement and other essential disaster-related needs.
There are three ways to apply:
1) DisasterAssistance.gov
2) download the FEMA App for mobile devices
3) call FEMA toll-free 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern Time. Help is available in many languages.
If you do have insurance, do not wait to file an insurance claim for damage caused by the disaster.

Q: How do I get information if there's no internet or cell service?
A: Information Hubs will be set up at every Charlotte county recreation center and library as soon as it is safe. You can visit these locations for lists of local resources.
Q: Should I evacuate?
A: CLICK HERE to see if your home is in an evacuation zone. If you choose not to leave and your home is in an evacuation zone, emergency personnel will not be able to help you until after the storm has passed. Depending on the damage from the storm, emergency personnel may be unable to help you for days.
Q: I want to evacuate, but I'm not sure where to go. What should I do?
A: Just a few miles inland can make the difference between safety and danger. Try to find friends, family, or a hotel to stay at. If this is not possible, CLICK HERE for a list of hurricane shelters in Charlotte County.
Q: What happens if water enters my home?
A: Turn off the main breaker switch if you're able to, and move to the highest area of the home.
Q: Do any Charlotte County shelters allow pets?
A: Yes, all shelters in Charlotte County allow pets. Please bring a crate and any supplies your pet may need (leash, collar/harness, medicine, food).
Q: I have a family member who lives in Charlotte County but I can't reach them. How do I know that they're okay?
